THE DEVILS CROSSING - LACHRYMATORY PENDANT

Β£45.00

We created these beautiful pendants with the ancient folklore story of lachrymatory tear catchers in our mind and their use during the mourning period. After losing a loved one it was thought that lachrymatory viles’ were used to catch the falling tears of those grieving, measuring their mourning process. When the tears evaporated, they were free of their grief. This mourning tradition dates back as far as the Roman era but reappeared during the reign of Queen Victoria, when mourning became a beautifully delicate focus with the use of darkened lace gowns, Memento Mori jewellery and lachrymatory traditions.

These beautiful resin pendants are handcrafted by us at The Haunts Curiosity Shoppe individually using preserved moss from hallowed ground near and far. Each pendant is set upon a 26inch sterling silver chain which has been darkened using oxidation.

EACH PENDANT IS HANDCRAFTED, SO WILL BE UNIQUE TO YOU.

- THE DEVILS CROSSING -

Between Coffin Stone and Pixies Holt on the wailing hills of Dartmoor sits Dartmeet. A feral body of water that snakes to the North. There you will find a stone path that crosses the palms of the river bed for those that feel brave enough. The moss in this necklace flows within the whispering trees above the crossing and is the species Old Blams beard, a variety of lichen. Upon moonlit nights, you can step out into the silver air around the waters edge and see piskies frolicking within fairy rings.
