This illustration is based upon a beautiful young woman executed in the Scottish Witch Trials. Agnes was named by Gellis Duncan as a fellow witch, despite already being investigated and imprisoned elsewhere. Agnes was well known in her community as a healer, midwife and cunningwoman. She used this as work after she was widowed, to support her children. Agnes would have had extensive knowledge of herbal medicine and floral tinctures for healing - a wise woman and gentle green healer.

This illustration also features the Scottish thistle, a symbol of strength. Foxgloves that can be seen depicted with thistles on the witchcraft memorial fountain and are flowers that link to the faerie world. You will also find the Schiehallion mountain, a place renound for witchcraft and faerie folk, along with heather pixies and other members of the Scottish seelie court.
