LADY LACHRYMATORY - GHOSTLY WALL HANGING

We created this handmade original ghost with the ancient folklore story of lachrymatory tear catchers in our mind and their use during the mourning period. After losing a loved one it was thought that lachrymatory viles’ were used to catch the falling tears of those grieving, measuring their mourning process. When the tears evaporated, they were free of their grief. This mourning tradition dates back as far as the Roman era but reappeared during the reign of Queen Victoria, when mourning became a beautifully delicate focus with the use of darkened lace gowns, Memento Mori jewellery and lachrymatory traditions.

Lady Lachrymatory utilises chiffon and lace to mimic the shades of momento mori traditions. The gown is dripping with chain and glass cut sun catcher beads in the shapes of teardrops to scatter the light, on even a stormy day. 

Each ghost is fully hand made by us, measuring approximately 45cm in length. Each one arrives with a collectors certificate that has been hand signed and tied to its mounting hoop.
